What better way to get the most out of your hot tub than in the cold winter, the nights are long and dark and we all need a little pick-me-up! Just like after a long hot summer day, you can't wait to jump into a cool pool. Likewise on a cold winter's day, slip into a bubbling hot tub filled with soothing warm water. Watching your breath as you exhale mingle with the steam coming out of the tub is beautiful.

It may be cool outside, but here are some reasons why using your spa in winter is the best time! As winter begins, the cold sets in and so do the germs. We all suffer from annoying colds and even flu. What better way to air out your sinuses than to breathe in the steam of a whirlpool? Breathing in steam is one of the most natural ways to banish a cold. You can even add aromatherapy by usingeucalyptus or other essential oils to lift your spirits.

How do you choose a location for your spa in winter?

One of the great advantages of a Softub over acrylic spas is its ease of movement. They are light enough for one person to manoeuvre, they can be positioned almost anywhere the location is suitable.

In winter, some people prefer to move their Softub indoors. This is an excellent option if you have the space to do so. This option reduces the problems that winter weather can cause. No need to worry about trees falling on it and freezing rain. For others, this is not the best option, they simply prefer to keep their hot tub outside to get the best experience while lying down and watching the snowflakes fly overhead.

A warm ambience for your spa in winter

Turn your garden into a winter paradise

Your garden isn't just for the Christmas tree. Why not try decorating your hot tub with beautiful lights and hanging twinkling string lights for a truly festive experience?

Dive into the bubbling water with a floating mini bar filled with your favourite appetizers or drinks. Just make sure you take a big fluffy bathrobe and slippers nearby to make the trip out of the spa enjoyable.

Some tips for using your spa in winter

To make the most of your investment and maximise your enjoyment, follow our ultimate guide to using your spa in winter.

Think about the ease of access to your spa

As soon as the temperature drops, switch your spa to "frost free" mode. When using your hot tub outside in winter, there is a risk that the water around it will freeze, so be careful. Make sure you wear the right shoes to avoid slipping.

How to choose the site for your spa

You will need a flat area where you will place your Softub, preferably made of slabs of sticks, avoid objects that could damage the bottom of the unit. If you have trees around the area, try to select a location away from large tree branches.

Setting the water temperature

A Softub can heat up to a maximum of 40° before the heater switches off. It can also heat up an extra 1 or 2 degrees afterwards, making the water even hotter while sitting. But we recommend that you turn the water temperature down a few degrees when using it in colder temperatures.

Also remember that water that is too hot can be harmful to your health. It is not advisable to increase the temperature of your water above 40°. This is because the human body does not adapt well to extreme and rapid changes in heat. Keep in mind that the spa session should not last more than 30 minutes at a time to avoid temporary shock or dizziness.

Monitor your spa's water level

You may notice that the water level in your spa is dropping faster than normal. Most likely, this is due to higher drying rates due to winter winds, drier air, and a greater difference between the water temperature and the ambient air. Monitoring the water level in your spa is very important during the winter months. If the water level is too low, the pumps can malfunction and cause the water to freeze. This could cause damage to the spa mould, accessories and plumbing parts.

We also recommend that you follow basic safety rules. Not planning to use your spa in winter? Read our article on winterizing your spaHowever, as stated at the beginning of this article, a heated Softub during the colder months is one of the most enjoyable things to do.
